Former University of Oregon wide receiver Keanon Lowe was announced as one of six individuals honored over the weekend by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
Lowe was named a 2020 Citizen Honors Award Honoree for his heroic actions to disarm a student at Parkrose High School on May 17, 2019. Lowe, Parkrose’s football coach and security guard at the time, was caught on surveillance cameras talking to the student and getting him to surrender his loaded shotgun before finishing in an emotional embrace.
Lowe has since taken over as the new head football coach at West Linn High School.
The award is the nation’s highest civilian honor. Lowe will be honored at a ceremony at a later date after the current national health crisis is over.
