COOS BAY — The Umpqua Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams were winners on the coast Wednesday night.

The No. 1 ranked Umpqua women remained undefeated on the year with an 87-67 win over Southwestern Oregon. The RiverHawks trailed the entire first quarter, but stormed back in front by halftime.

UCC went on a 14-2 run midway through the third quarter to pull away for good.

Hunter Boske came off the bench to hit six 3-pointers and lead the RiverHawks with 24 points. Darian Mitchell added a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

The Umpqua women are now 28-0 and have set a school record winning 28 consecutive games.

The No. 6 ranked Umpqua men got back in the win column with a 95-78 victory against the Lakers. With the win, UCC clinched a second place finish in the South Region.

Cameron Benzel and Kolten Mortensen led five players in double-figures for the RiverHawks with 19 points apiece. Mortensen also added a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Umpqua men finished runner-up to Clackamas, which clinched the outright South Region title with a 103-93 win over Chemeketa Wednesday night.

There’s one more game left to play for the RiverHawks. The men and women will host Clackamas in the regular season finale on Saturday.

Once the season is complete, the RiverHawks will be waiting for the NWAC tournament brackets to be announced on Sunday.
