The high school basketball state playoffs started with a bang for Douglas County teams as the Days Creek and Elkton girls won big in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs Tuesday night.

The Elkton girls cruised past Eddyville Charter 61-28 to advance to the second round. Margaret Byle scored 14 points to lead the Elks and Kieryn Carnes added 12.

The Elkton girls will next face Mohawk in the second round on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Days Creek girls were slow out of the gate on Tuesday, but locked in for the second half to defeat Paisley 42-26. The Wolves were down by two at halftime, but shutout the Broncos in the third quarter to pull ahead for good.

Shandiin Newton led Days Creek with 16 points and Joleen Crume added 12.

The Days Creek girls will face undefeated and top-ranked Crane on Friday in the second round at 6 p.m.

Now, it’s the boy’s turn in the 1A playoffs, which tipoff Wednesday night.

The North Douglas boys took third in the Skyline League playoffs and hit the road for Klamath Falls to face the Triad Timberwolves. The game tips off at 6 p.m.

The Days Creek boys took second in the Skyline League playoffs and earned a home playoff game in the first round. The Wolves host Crane at 6 p.m.
