The first Northwest Athletic Conference basketball coaches polls were released on Wednesday and the Umpqua RiverHawks landed in the top 8 in both the men’s and women’s rankings.

The 7-0 Umpqua women start the season atop the rankings. The RiverHawks received six of the possible eight first place votes and narrowly edged out Clackamas, which received the other two first place votes.

The UCC women are the only undefeated team left in the NWAC. The RiverHawks are joined in the poll by fellow South Region teams Clackamas (No. 2) and Lane (No. 4).

The Umpqua women are back to action on Saturday in the Tacoma CC Crossover.

The Umpqua men start the season ranked 6th in the coaches poll. The RiverHawks have gone 8-1 to start the year. Everett took the top spot with five first place votes, Clackamas was second with two first place votes and Skagit Valley received a first place vote and was tied for third with Lower Columbia.

The UCC guys are back on the court Saturday at home against Grays Harbor.
