The high school basketball season got underway with a bang for the Roseburg boys Wednesday night at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium at Roseburg High.
Using a roster made up of only juniors and sophomores – most making their varsity debut – the Indians pulled off a surprising 84-59 victory against Eagle Point in the season opener for both teams.
The Tribe fell behind by five points early on, but finished the first quarter on a 14-2 run and it was all Roseburg from there.
Zach Martin led all scorers with 30 points in his first varsity start for Roseburg. Attreyu Pinard added 15 for the Indians and sophomore Danil Olson came off the bench to add 12.
The victory gives head coach Jordan Humphreys his first triumph with the Indians.
Roseburg (1-0) will now gear up for its first road test. The Tribe heads to Century High School in Beaverton to face the Jaguars (0-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on The Score, 92.3 FM and 1490 AM with pregame at 6:45 p.m. There will be no live video coverage of the game.
