It’s the final week of the regular season in high school football and every Umpqua Basin football team playing this week will hit the gridiron Friday. Some have postseason dreams hanging in the balance, while others have already punched their ticket. A few are just looking to build moment towards next year.
In Class 6A… the Roseburg High football team showed signs of progress in the second half of last week’s loss to Sheldon and the Tribe will try to carry that over into this week’s nonleague game at Canby.
The Indians are a longshot to make the state playoffs, but a road win could put them in the mix. Meanwhile, Canby ended a 22-game losing streak dating back to 2017 with a win last week against Oregon City. The Cougars also have a slim chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
Tonight’s contest begins at 7 p.m. from Canby. Tune in for broadcast coverage of the game starting at 6:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
The Sutherlin Bulldogs have already clinched a berth in the Class 3A state playoffs, but a win tonight against Siuslaw would clinch sole possession of second place in the Special District 2 North division.
Sutherlin and Siuslaw are tied for second at the moment, but both teams will look to finish strong and build momentum for a playoff run. A win could also possibly earn either team a home game in the first round of the postseason.
The Bulldogs and Vikings kickoff from Sutherlin at 7 p.m. Tune in for coverage at 6:45 p.m. on i101 FM.
Down in Tri-Cities tonight, it’s a cross-county rivalry between South Umpqua and Douglas. The two teams have had difficult seasons, but you can forget the records when it comes to this showdown. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
The Oakland Oakers are already in the Class 2A state playoffs and tonight the Glide Wildcats will hope to join them.
Oakland is trying to secure a second place finish in the Special District 3 standings as the Oakers travel to Central Linn tonight for a 7 p.m. kick.
Glide hosts Lakeview in a battle for at least a share of the Special District 5 league title. Glide and Lakeview are in a 3-way tie with Lost River for first place. Glide holds the tiebreaker against Lost River and could claim the title and an automatic berth in the playoffs with a victory.
The game gets underway tonight at 7 p.m.
And at the 8-man level, it’s a full slate of district crossover games.
North Douglas and Days Creek are both looking to lock up playoff spots today.
North Douglas hosts Siletz Valley tonight at 7 p.m. in a Special District 1 crossover and Days Creek welcomes in Bonanza at 2 p.m. in a Special District 2 battle.
In other match-ups, the season will come to an end for our local teams. Glendale visits Chiloquin and Yoncalla hosts Mohawk.
