The high school playoff season is upon us and first round volleyball match-ups have been set at the 6A and 1A levels.
The Roseburg High volleyball team finished the regular season on Thursday last week with the second of back-to-back victories that helped secure a berth in the state playoffs for the 28th consecutive year. Roseburg finished 4th in the Southwest Conference and will be the underdog in a first round road match at Mountainside High School in Beaverton.
The 6A state playoffs begin on Wednesday.
Three small schools have reached the 1A state volleyball playoffs. Days Creek rallied from a two-set deficit against North Douglas in the Skyline League district tournament championship game on Saturday and the Wolves took the league’s top spot for the post season.
Days Creek earns a first round bye as the district champ, while North Douglas will host a first round match against McKenzie on Wednesday.
Elkton finished third in the Skyline League district tournament and also qualified for the playoffs. The Elks travel to Redmond to face Central Christian on Wednesday.
Game times for the playoffs have not yet been set.
Sutherlin and South Umpqua volleyball also have qualified for the state playoffs, but will wait for the 3A rankings to freeze on Tuesday night. Sutherlin swept South Umpqua in the Far West League tournament to claim the league’s top spot. South Umpqua reached the tournament championship match by defeating Cascade Christian.
Both teams are expected to host first round matches. The 3A state playoffs will begin on Saturday.
The Glide Wildcats have also clinched a playoff berth, but will square off with conference champion Bonanza on Tuesday in a seeding match. The 3A state playoffs begin on Saturday.
