The Oregon American Legion baseball season has come to an end and it’s repeat state titles all around.
The North Coos Waterfront and Medford Mustangs were both crowned 2019 American Legion state champs, following up titles in 2018.
At Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field in Roseburg, North Coos claimed the Class A championship with a 12-2 win over Alpenrose Dairy of Portland in six innings. The Red Sox defeated the Waterfront 7-6 in the first game Wednesday to force a winner-take-all match-up.
North Coos bounced-back from the narrow defeat to win its second consecutive state title.
Both teams will move on to the Northwest Regional in Cody, Wyoming starting next week.
Down in Klamath Falls at Kiger Stadium, the Medford Mustangs polished off a remarkable run to end the season and claimed their sixth straight state championship with a 5-4 win over the Eugene Challengers.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Eugene clawed its way back and scored three times in the seventh inning to get within one run. The Challengers had the game-tying run at third base with one out, but Medford turned a double-play to win the game.
The Mustangs went 23-8 in the month of July, including a 13-game winning streak.
Medford will move on to play in the Northwest Regional in Lewiston, Idaho starting Wednesday.
