ROSEBURG — The Dr. Randol’s Crowns started their Class-A American Legion baseball season with a 10-9 victory over county rival Pepsi Wednesday night at Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field.
The Crowns scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-7 lead over the Bottlecaps, but had to hold off Pepsi, which scored twice in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and left the game-tying run at second.
Sam Guasteferro went 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in four for Dr. Randol’s, including the game-winning run in the seventh. Dakota Purcell went 2-for-3 for Pepsi and drove in a team-high two runs.
The two teams combined to use nine pitchers, record 20 hits and commit six errors.
Up next, the Crowns will visit Grants Pass for a doubleheader on Sunday. Pepsi will visit North Medford on Wednesday next week.
