CORVALLIS – Beau Philip went 4-for-5 with a double and Adley Rutschman hit a ninth-inning home run but Oregon State’s late rally fell short in an 8-7 loss to Oklahoma State Sunday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Rutschman hit a solo home run to lead off the ninth and Tyler Malone hit a pinch hit single with two down but the Cowboys’ (28-16 overall) Ben Leeper got Jake Dukart to fly out to end the game. Leeper earned his fifth save of the season in Oklahoma State’s sweep.

Philip singled three times and doubled, finishing the day with an RBI. It marked just his second game back after missing nearly a month.

The Cowboys took a 3-0 lead in the first but Oregon State (31-14-1) answered with one in the bottom half and two in the second. The Beavers took the lead, 6-3, in the fifth thanks to RBI from Preston Jones, then Dukart and finally Andy Armstrong.

Oklahoma State, however, tied the game on a three-run home run by Trevor Boone in the sixth, then went ahead for good when Cade Cabbiness drove him two with two down in the eighth.

Jake Mulholland took the loss after allowing four hits and three runs in 2 2/3 innings, dropping to 3-2 this season. Jake Lyons, in relief of Oklahoma State starter Brett Standlee, earned the win after 3 2/3 innings. He allowed four hits and three runs and is now 3-2.

Dylan Pearce made a spot start for the Beavers and allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings. Standlee allowed eight hits and three runs.

Rutschman, Alex McGarry and Ryan Ober all had two hits for the Beavers, who finished with 14 as a team.
