SPOKANE – The Northwest Athletic Conference track and field multi-event championships got underway on Monday at Spokane Falls Community College. Umpqua Community College freshmen Carver Beck and Camron Wright completed the first five events of the men’s decathlon and will finish the final five on Tuesday.

Beck sits in seventh out of the nine qualifiers for the decathlon, while Wright is ninth. Beck’s top event so far was the long jump, where the Triangle Lake High School graduate finished tied for fifth. Wright, a Roseburg High product, had his best event in the shot put, where he finished eighth.

JJ Wakler from Clackamas Community College was leading after day one. Events resume Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
