EUGENE – The Umpqua Community College men’s basketball team faltered down the stretch against the Lane Titans in a showdown for first place in the NWAC South Region on Monday.

The fourth-ranked RiverHawks pulled ahead 64-61 midway through the second half, but a 9-0 run by Lane put the Titans in front for good in an 87-79 win over Umpqua. The victory secured the South Region title for the Titans, while the RiverHawks fell to second.

John Morrill-Keeller scored a career-high 30 points for Umpqua and had a team-high eight rebounds. Cameron Benzel came off the bench to add 13 points and Eric Klekas chipped in 12.

Now, it’s on to the NWACC championship tournament held in Everett, WA. The men will take off Wednesday to be ready in time for the first round on Thursday. The two-seed RiverHawks will face Spokane at 4 p.m.
