A big showdown in the NWAC South Region is brewing, but it will have to stew a little longer after Umpqua Community College and Lane Community College have decided to postpone today’s men’s and women’s basketball games in Eugene.

The recent winter storm has made travel difficult, so the teams have moved the games to Thursday. The women tipoff at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.

The games have a lot riding on the line. The No. 4 ranked Umpqua women trail No. 1 Lane by just one game in the standings. UCC defeated Lane 91-87 at home on Jan. 30. Another win for the RiverHawks would move the women into a tie with Lane, but UCC would have the head-to-head tiebreaker for the top-seed.

The No. 4 ranked Umpqua men are tied for first with the No. 3 Titans. A win for UCC would put the RiverHawks alone in first place and give them a season sweep against Lane, virtually clinching the South Region title with one game left to play.
