PORTLAND – The Roseburg wrestling team claimed its sixth-straight state championship by narrowly edging out Newberg 263-256 on Saturday in Portland. The Indians had 10 state placers, but won the team title without an individual champion this season.
Nash Singleton and Logan Folsom each reached the finals, but finished as runner-up. Roseburg also got third place finishes from Kahleb Diaz, Tristin David, Austin David, and Darian Thacker.
Glide senior Zach Holland won a 2A/1A state title at 170 pounds for his second career individual championship. Holland finished the season with a 37-0 record and won all three of his state tournament matches by fall.
Fellow Glide senior Cayden Kangiser took second at state and the Glide Wildcats finished second as a team behind champion Culver.
Glendale senior William Kidwell was also a runner up in the 2A/1A state tournament.
Sutherlin’s Bryce Anderson and Douglas’ Kadin Baker each reached the finals of the 3A tournament, but fell short of individual titles.
