GRANTS PASS – Looking to bounce-back after their first Southwest Conference loss of the season, the Roseburg boys basketball team came up short in a comeback effort against Grants Pass at Heater-Newman Memorial Gymnasium Tuesday night.

The Indians trailed the Cavemen for three quarters, but finally managed to take a lead in the fourth. Roseburg pulled ahead by five points only to falter down the stretch as the Cavemen rallied for a 52-46 victory.

Collin Warmouth hit back-to-back three-pointers to give Roseburg (12-6; 2-2 SWC) a 41-39 advantage with a little more than five minutes left in the game. Jett Black added a third straight three for the Indians to cap an 11-0 run to start the final period.

It was a four-point lead for Roseburg with about two minutes to go when Grants Pass mounted its comeback run. Senior Skyler Rich hit his second three-pointer of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 46-45.

Grants Pass (6-12; 2-2 SWC) took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Chase Coyle with one minute, 19 seconds remaining. The Cavemen finished the final minute of the game going 5 of 6 from the charity stripe to pull away for the win.

“I thought we competed tonight,” said head coach Mike Pardon, who had pointed out a lack of energy after Roseburg’s road loss to South Medford last Friday. “Our kids just stayed with it. We’ve got to come out and get better every time we step on the floor.”

Roseburg fell behind by nine in the first quarter against Grants Pass, but slowly chipped away at the lead. The Indians had it down to a one-point game at halftime and kept the score within a couple possessions throughout the third quarter.

Warmouth scored a game-high 24 points to lead Roseburg. Black and Kaden Seely added nine points each.

Roseburg senior Jonathan Stone made his second start after returning from a knee injury that kept him out for six games, but left the game in the first quarter after suffering another knee injury.

Taylor Anderson, the second leading scorer in the SWC, led Grants Pass with 17 points. Randy Clark added 15 for the Cavemen.

Up next, Roseburg hosts North Medford on Friday to finish up the first half of the conference schedule. Tipoff is set for 6:45 p.m. Tune in for broadcast coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
