ROSEBURG – The Roseburg boy’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the year Tuesday night in a 55-41 defeat at the hands of the Willamette Wolverines. Early foul trouble forced leading scorer Collin Warmouth to spend most of the first half on the bench and the Wolverines made seven three-pointers before halftime to build a double-digit lead that Roseburg couldn’t overcome.

Willamette senior Jacob Curtis scored 13 points in the first quarter, shooting 5-of-5 from the floor including three 3-pointers. His outburst paced the Wolverines to a 23-16 advantage going to the second quarter. Senior Owen Cross chipped 10 points in the first half and Willamette (3-1) stretched the lead to 12 by halftime.

The Indians closed the gap to seven points early in the third qu

arter, but couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way. Willamette cooled off in the second half, but managed to respond to every Roseburg (5-1) run and outscored the Indians 20-18.

Warmouth scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in the second half for Roseburg, while Storm Scott and Jett Black each added 11.

The Roseburg boys will try to bounce back from the loss on Friday when the team hosts the Bend Lava Bears. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6:45 p.m. Broadcast coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
