As the high school basketball season gets ready to tipoff on Wednesday, the OSAA has compiled coaches polls for boys and girls basketball teams in every classification. A few Umpqua Basin teams cracked the top 10 of the preseason rankings.

The highest ranking from the local region goes to the Oakland girls’ basketball team, which was voted second by coaches in the 2A classification. The Oakers received one first place vote and came in behind Kennedy, which received 11 first place votes. The Oakland girls are coming off a 6th place finish at the state tournament last year after winning their conference tournament.

Also in the rankings on the girl’s side is Days Creek, the sixth-ranked team at the 1A level. North Douglas received some votes, but was outside the girl’s 1A top 10 and Sutherlin received votes at the 3A level, but also didn’t crack the top 10.

On the boy’s side, the Oakland Oakers came in 9th in the preseason poll at the 2A level and Umpqua Valley Christian received votes in the 1A poll.
