WINCHESTER – The Umpqua women’s basketball team scored a victory in their season opener on Tuesday. The RiverHawks defeated the Shasta College Knights 84-48 behind 24 points from Taylor Stricklin and a double-double by Sienna Riggle.

Stricklin drained four three-pointers and made nine of 15 shots from the floor. The only sophomore on the team also added six rebounds and four assists.

Riggle pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to go with 10 points.

The RiverHawks dominated the paint, scoring 48 points near the hoop. UCC also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Shasta 50-24.

The Umpqua women are now 1-0 on the year and will have a few days off before beginning play in the Clackamas Community College Thanksgiving Invitational on Friday. UCC faces Mt. Hood on Friday, then Olympic on Saturday, and Clackamas on Sunday.
