ROSEBURG – Senior night was spoiled for the Roseburg volleyball team on Thursday as the Indians dropped their regular season finale to Grants Pass in five sets. While the result was likely disappointing, it doesn’t change the fact that the Tribe is heading to the post season next week.
Roseburg finished the regular season tied for 2nd with South Eugene in the Southwest Conference. The Indians are ranked 19th by the OSAA as of Friday morning, which means they will be on the road to begin the post season. Roseburg’s ranking could change slightly before the poll freezes on Saturday night, but it’s unlikely to change enough to earn Roseburg a home match.
The 6A state playoffs begin on Wednesday next week.
The 1A Skyline League volleyball playoffs got started Thursday and Umpqua Valley Christian and Days Creek have both advanced to Saturday’s semifinals.
Umpqua Valley Christian won twice to keep its season alive. The Monarchs took down Glendale in four sets in the first round and followed that up with a three-set sweep against Camas Valley. UVC will face third-ranked North Douglas, the Skyline North regular season champion, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Sutherlin High School.
Meanwhile, Days Creek protected its home court with a sweep over Elkton to advance to the semis. The Wolves faced Elkton after the Elks eliminated Riddle in the first round. Days Creek will square off with Skyline South champion New Hope Christian on Saturday at 11 a.m.
