ROSEBURG – The high school cross country season is starting to wind down, but the Roseburg Indians hosted teams from Southern Oregon for the Umpqua Last Chance meet at Stewart Park on Wednesday.

Roseburg senior Elijah Hansen preformed well and finished second in the boys 5,000 meter race. He crossed the finish line with a time of 17:08 and was less than 90 seconds behind the overall winner from Grants Pass.

The Cavemen took seven of the eight top spots in the boys race. Roseburg claimed spots nine through 12. Glide also sent a team to the meet, led by sophomore Brandon Bryd who placed 19th.

On the girls’ side, Roseburg sophomore Miriam Childers was the top local finisher. She placed 8th overall with a time of 21:53 and was the only local racer in the top ten.

Roseburg head coach Nathan Eckman used the race as a final try out for the last varsity roster spots before the Southwest Conference championship meet next Wednesday. Roseburg’s top runners did not compete in the race.

The Indians will host the conference championship meet at Stewart Park next Wednesday afternoon.
