MEDFORD – The Roseburg volleyball team clinched an automatic berth in the state playoffs on Tuesday with a sweep of the South Medford Panthers. The win, coupled with a North Medford loss, guaranteed that Roseburg will finish no worse than third in the Southwest Conference standings with one conference match left to play. Only the top three teams receive automatic berths in the playoffs.
Roseburg scratched out the win over the Panthers. Each of the three sets came down to the wire, but the Indians claimed 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17 victories.
Sheldon wrapped-up the conference title on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Grants Pass, while Roseburg battles with South Eugene for second place. The Indians finish the regular season with a home game against Grants Pass on Thursday.
The South Umpqua volleyball team finished the regular season Tuesday night with a sweep over Douglas and the Lancers clinched a second straight Far West League championship.
South Umpqua finished tied for first with Cascade Christrian and the two sides will split the league title. They will also square off in a seeding match on Saturday at 2 p.m. to determine which team will earn home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
