SEATTLE – Owner of the Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks Paul Allen passed away Monday from complications of non-Hodgkins lymphoma according to a statement from his family. Allen was 65-year-old.
On October 1 Allen released a statement saying that the cancer he was treated for in 2009 had returned, but said doctors were optimistic about his treatment.
“It was an honor and a privilege to know and work for Paul Allen these past six years. He was a man of unparalleled passion, creativity and vision that expected those with whom he surrounded himself to strive for the same standards of excellence he held himself to,” said Blazers President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. “I will miss his leadership in finding solutions to our challenges and am deeply saddened we will no longer be able to share the joys of our successes.”
Allen purchased the Portland Trail Blazers in 1988 and bought the Seattle Seahawks in 1996.
