ROSEBURG – There will be a new name leading the Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s American Legion baseball team in 2019 following the resignation of Scott Shaver on Wednesday after leading the program for 11 seasons.
Shaver said Wednesday night that he was informed that the American Legion commission in Roseburg was considering a change of leadership on Tuesday and he made the decision step down.
Under Shaver’s leadership in 2018, the Dr. Stewart’s finished third in Area 4 and reached the state tournament for the first time since 2014. The Doc’s hosted the tournament at Legion Field, but went 0-2 after a pair of one-run losses.
The American Legion commission will hold interviews for new coaches on Saturday, according to commissioner Tom Donegan. He said that a group of 2-4 candidates will interview for the position. Once interviews are complete, the Legion commission will plan to promptly vote on a new coach.
This is a developing story and more details will be added as they become available.
