OCT. 10, 2018 – It was a tough night for local teams seeking a spot at the top of the league standings on Tuesday.
The Roseburg volleyball team came up short in a showdown with Sheldon. The Irish took over sole possession of first in the Southwest Conference by defeating Roseburg in four sets.
The loss drops the Indians into second place with three league matches left to play, two of which will be on the road in Medford. Roseburg is closing in on a post season berth and could secure an automatic bid into the playoffs with a win against North Medford on Thursday.
The Cascade Christian Challengers handed the top-ranked South Umpqua volleyball team its first loss in Far West League play Tuesday night. The Challengers swept the match to move into a tie for first place in the league standings.
There are still two league matches left in the regular season to decide the league champion. Despite the loss, the Lancers have secured a berth in the state playoffs as one of the top two teams in the league standings.
Up next for South Umpqua is a home match with the Sutherlin Bulldogs on Thursday.
