WINSTON – The Douglas volleyball team took a big step on its path towards a post season berth with a four-set victory against St. Mary’s Thursday night. The Trojans ended a four-game skid and moved into a tie for third in the Far West League with the 3-1 victory over the Crusaders.

Ellie Wiegman had 12 kills to pace Douglas’ offense and Makenna Anderson had 21 assists and 14 digs to chip in on the victory.

With the win, Douglas keeps its hopes of a top two finish and automatic spot in the playoffs alive, but also keeps its power ranking in the top 16, which would also give the Trojans an at-large berth in the state playoffs.

Douglas will travel to Brookings-Harbor for a league game next Tuesday.

Also in the Far West Thursday night, South Umpqua swept Brookings-Harbor to move one step closer to claiming the league title. The Lancers can clinch the Far West championship next week with a win over second place Cascade Christian.
