ROSEBURG – A late rally by the Roseburg football team got the Indians within a score against the Grants Pass Cavemen, but the dramatic ending came up short in a 44-39 loss for the Tribe on Friday night.

Grants Pass (4-1; 1-0 SWC) led wire-to-wire behind five passing touchdowns from quarterback Chase Coyle. The junior connected with three different receivers for scores. Randy Clark and Korbin Lopez each scored twice and Blain Hobbs found the end zone once.

Lopez’s second score was the clincher for Grants Pass. He grabbed a 7-yard slant to put the Cavemen back in front by two scores and the extra point made it a 44-32 score.

Roseburg (1-4; 0-1 SWC) found the end zone on its final drive to get back within five, but the Cavemen ran out the clock to seal the win.

Quarterback Collin Warmouth had a career-day for Roseburg. The senior completed 20-of-29 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He set record-highs for completions, attempts and yards. Warmouth also rushed two scores.

Payton Bryant led Roseburg’s receiving corps before leaving the game due to injury in the fourth quarter. Bryant had two touchdown grabs and also had an interception on defense.

Roseburg will continue Southwest Conference play against South Medford next week. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. from Spiegelberg Stadium in Medford.
