(Sept. 28) – League play begins tonight for many of our local high school football teams in the Umpqua Basin.

The Roseburg football team welcomes in Grants Pass to begin Southwest Conference play. The Indians are undefeated at home this season, but they have only gotten to run out on the new Finlay Field turf once so far this year. Roseburg will be aiming to end a two-game losing skid, while Grants Pass comes in on a three-game winning streak.

3A Special District 2 play gets started tonight in the North and South Divisions.

The Sutherlin Bulldogs begin North Division play with a home game against La Pine. Sutherlin has gotten out to a hot start at 3-1 behind strong defensive play. The Bulldogs are coming off a dynamic comeback victory last week and will try to continue against the Hawks tonight. Broadcast coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m. on i101 FM.

In the South Division, both South Umpqua and Douglas begin league play.

Douglas hits the road for Medford to face St. Mary’s. The Trojans are still seeking that first win of the year. They kickoff at 7 p.m.

South Umpqua heads to the southern coast to square off with Brookings-Harbor. The two teams were conference opponents last year in the 4A classification and will continue the series at the 3A level. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
