SALEM – The Umpqua RiverHawks remained among the South Region leaders with a sweep of the Chemeketa Storm on Wednesday night. UCC edged out a 26-24 win in the first set and then cruised to 25-19 and 25-13 wins to claim the match.
Umpqua built an eight-point lead in the first set, but let Chemeketa creep back in and the Storm tied the set at 23. Chemeketa moved to within a point of winning the first set, but UCC scored the final three points to win. Amiyah Shakoor had two kills in the final sequence to help lead the RiverHawks to the win.
Shakoor led UCC with 11 kills. McKenna Wilson added seven kills and a team-high 12 digs.
The RiverHawks are now 2-1 in South Region matches and remain one-game behind region leader Linn-Benton. Up next for Umpqua is another road conference game at Clackamas on Saturday.
