ROSEBURG – Umpqua Community College has hired a former Roseburg High and Oregon State track & field standout to coach throwers for the RiverHawks. Rachel Henry, previously known by Rachel Picknell – her maiden name, was announced on Tuesday as the newest assistant coach under UCC track & field head coach Alan King.
Henry will work with the athletes doing shot put, discus, hammer throw. She competed in those same events as a prep and collegian. Henry set the Beaver school record in the hammer throw, with a career best of 173 feet, 4 ½ inches and has the 2nd best discus throw in Oregon State history with a mark of 164 feet, 9 inches.
As a prep athlete at Roseburg High School, Henry was a two-time state qualifier and placed third in discus during her senior year in 2012.
Henry is married to former Oakland star athlete and Oregon State football player David Henry.
