SPRINGFIELD – Roseburg exchange student Fernando Bitelli recorded a hat trick and led the RHS boys soccer team to a 3-2 comeback victory over the Thurston Colts on Wednesday.
The Colts jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 4th and 20th minutes, but Bicelli got Roseburg on the board before the half on an assist from Patrick Giraudo.
Bitelli tied the game in the 45th minute and five minutes later put the Indians in front with his third score of the game. Roseburg (1-1) held off Thurston over the final 30 minutes for its first win of the year.
Coach Jim Giraudo credited a formation change for Roseburg’s comeback. He said the new game plan allowed the defense to move the ball up the field easier.
Up next, the Indians will play one week from this Saturday against Willamette.
