FORTALEZA, BRAZIL – Roseburg High School graduate and state champion wrestler Austin Harris has sealed up a gold medal at the Junior Pan-American Greco-Roman Championships in Brazil this morning. Harris, now a redshirt freshman with Oklahoma State wrestling, picked up a 9-0 technical fall against Bryan Cruz Palacios in his first match. Cruz Palacios, from Peru, was a bronze medalist at the Pan-Am Championships in 2017.
Harris was lights out in his second match. He pinned Gabriel De Lira of Brazil in a quick 41 seconds to improve to 2-0. He has spent only 1:18 on the mat through two matches. Harris is one of two Team USA wrestlers to clinch a gold medal. Team USA has six other wrestlers competing tonight for medals.
Austin Harris will also wrestle in the freestyle tournament coming up over the weekend. Fans can follow Harris from the tournament on trackwrestling.com or stay up to date with @USAWrestling on Twitter.
