PORTLAND – Oakland’s Elizabeth Powell will be one of six student-athletes to receive a college scholarship from the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame during the 2018 induction ceremony coming up next month.

Powell is a 2018 graduate of Oakland High School and was a basketball and track and field athlete for the Oakers. She will receive a $3,000 scholarship through the MacTarnahan Family Trust to help her attend an Oregon college or university.

Powell will share the night with the latest class of inductees into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. Headlining the group is former Oregon State running back Steven Jackson. Joining Jackson is former MLB umpire Jim Joyce, multi-sport athlete Dan Jones, the East Bank Saloon senior basketball teams, and Tim and Gert Boyle of Columbia Sportswear.

The 2018 Oregon Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for September 25 at Portland’s Multnomah Athletic Club. Last year, former Roseburg High School football coach Thurman Bell was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
