FARGO, N.D. – Roseburg’s Hunter Sparks earned All-American honors after finishing fourth at the Junior Greco-Roman National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota over the weekend.

Sparks, a 2018 graduate from Roseburg High School, lost a 9-3 decision in the 126 pound third place match Sunday against Jordan Hamdan from Michigan.

The Cal Poly commit won his first three matches to reach the quarterfinals of the winner’s bracket. Sparks lost to Hamdan 8-6 in the quarterfinals and fell into the consolation round of eight. He won three more matches to reach the third place bout, but lost to Hamdan for a second time.

The fourth place finish for Sparks was the best mark of the trip to Fargo for Roseburg Mat Club wrestlers. The contingent also competed in the Freestyle tournament last week, but didn’t have a wrestler place.
