ALBANY – The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s scored nine runs in a decisive seventh inning and took a nonleague game 14-4 against the Mid-Valley SouthPaws on Thursday at West Albany High School.

The Doc’s sent 13 hitters to the plate in the seventh and scored nine runs on six hits and an error to retake a lead against the SouthPaws. Roseburg started the frame trailing Mid-Valley 4-2, but wound up leading 11-4.

Reliever Brendan Bliss walked Kyler Leischner to start the seventh and Caden Johnson laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Leischner into scoring position. Bliss then hit Garrett Russell and a fielding error by Mid-Valley first baseman Tanner Rice put Zach Holland on to load the bases with one out.

A walk to Jonathan Stone brought in Roseburg’s first run and three straight singles from Brody Black, Zack Mandera, and Cody Johnson drove in three more. Leischner drove in three more runs with a double in his second at-bat of the inning. Caden Johnson drove in a run with the first of his two doubles in the game and Russell drove in the Doc’s final run of the seventh with a single to left field.

The big frame put the game out of reach for Mid-Valley, which locked up the Area III championship on Tuesday. Noah Burke and Brody Black combined to throw two scoreless innings and finish off the Mercy Rule win for the Doc’s. Roseburg scored three runs in the eighth inning to stretch the lead to 10 runs.

Burke earned the win, tossing just 1 1/3 innings of relief for starter Doran Gillespie. Burke gave up just one hit, no runs, and struck out one. He improved his pitching record to a team-best 4-0.

Roseburg (22-16; 9-7 Area IV) had five doubles in the contest, led by Caden Johnson with two. Johnson and Brody Black each finished with two RBI and Leischner had a team-high three RBI.

Cade Perrizo led Mid-Valley’s offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a RBI, and two runs scored.

Up next for the Dr. Stewart’s is their final Area IV series of the season. Roseburg takes on Medford Saturday and Sunday to finish the regular season. The Mustangs sit in first place in the Area IV standings with a four-game lead over the Doc’s. Roseburg could steal the league championship with a four-game sweep of the Mustangs.

Medford travels to Roseburg on Saturday for a doubleheader and the Doc’s head south on Sunday. Game one of both doubleheaders begins at 5 p.m. Follow coverage of the Doc’s on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
