KLAMATH FALLS –The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s snapped an eight-game road losing streak and won their first Area IV league series with a doubleheader split against the Klamath Falls Falcons on Thursday.
Roseburg (18-14; 7-5 Area IV) led a majority of game one, but the Falcons rallied to walk-off with a 10-9 victory. In the nightcap, the Doc’s held off Klamath Falls down the stretch to win 6-4.
Klamath Falls (15-20; 3-9 Area IV) took a 9-6 lead over the Doc’s with four runs in the bottom of the sixth in game one. Roseburg had led by as much as four early on, but the Falcons took advantage of four Doc’s errors to snatch the lead late.
Despite the turn in the game, the Doc’s rallied to tie the game 9-9 in the top of the seventh on a two-out single by Jonathan Stone. The Stewies left the go-ahead run at second.
In the bottom of the seventh, reliever Drake Borschowa got two outs, but gave up a single to John Mark Tacchini in between. Tacchini stole second and McCrea Hamilton drove in the winning run to give Klamath Falls the 10-9 victory.
Brody Black and Cody Johnson drove in runs in the first inning to give Roseburg a 3-0 lead. The Doc’s pulled ahead 4-0 in the third on a RBI single by Caden Johnson.
Klamath Falls scored its first run on a wild pitch in the third and added two more with a double by Blake Loney off Doc’s starter Jace Stoffal. The Falcons tied the game 5-5 in the fifth on a RBI triple by Josh Hamiton and a groundout by Loney.
Stoffal took the loss for the Doc’s. He tossed 5 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits for nine runs, of which only three were earned. He finished with seven strikeouts and only two walks.
Roseburg got a 6-4 win in game two behind a complete game victory from Cody Johnson. He scattered nine hits over seven innings and surrendered only four runs, three earned. Johnson struck out four and walked two.
Jonathan Stone gave the Doc’s a 1-0 lead in the first inning with the first of three hits in the game. Roseburg added another four runs in the fourth, but the Falcons closed the gap with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Leading 5-3 in the seventh, Roseburg added an insurance run on a Klamath Falls fielding error. The Falcons got a run back in their final at-bats, but Johnson finished the game with a strike out and made the final out on a comebacker to the mound.
The remained in second place in the Area IV standings, three games behind league-leader Medford. The Mustangs swept a doubleheader against Willamette Valley on Thursday to stretch their lead for the league crown.
