ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s finished with a combined 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep against Klamath Falls on Wednesday and stretched their home winning streak to 12-games. The Doc’s also moved into second place in the Area IV standings with the 11-6 and 8-3 victories over the Falcons.

Doran Gillespie led the way in the Doc’s offensive onslaught. The soon-to-be Roseburg High School junior went a combined 7-for-8 in the twin bill with three doubles and a three-run homer. He finished the night with four RBI.

Roseburg (17-13; 6-4 Area IV) jumped on Klamath Falls early in game one. The Doc’s took a 4-0 lead thanks to two errors and a trio of hits. The lead didn’t last long as the Falcons broke through against Doc’s starter Payton Hope and tied the game in the second.

Hope gave up five straight hits to begin the top of the second inning. The first four hitters to get on base all wound up scoring. Hayden Rasica, McCrea Hamilton, and Blake Loney all drove in runs for the Falcons.

Hope settled in after the second and tossed three straight shutout innings. While he was shutting down Klamath Falls, the Doc’s hitters kept adding runs against the Falcons. Jonathan Stone drove in a run in the second to give Roseburg a 5-4 lead. Jett Black drove in a run in the third with a groundout. And the Doc’s put the game out of reach with five more runs in the fourth.

Cody Johnson joined Gillespie with a multi-hit game. Johnson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

The Doc’s earned the sweep in nightcap behind a complete game pitching performance from Zack Mandera. He scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed just three runs. Mandera struck out three and walked two.

Roseburg scored first, but Klamath Falls tied the game 1-1 in the second. Caden Johnson gave the Doc’s the lead back with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons tied the game again in the third, but Caden Johnson came through in the clutch again to give the Doc’s the lead for good.

Johnson hit his second two-out RBI double in the fourth inning to plate Jett Black, giving Roseburg a 3-2 lead. The Stewies added two more runs in the fifth on a Jett Black double and topped off the scoring on a three-run homer by Gillespie in the sixth.

Roseburg will now take a four-game winning streak to Klamath Falls on Thursday. The Doc’s will be looking to win their first league road game and their first league series. Game time for the doubleheader has been moved to 6 p.m. due to a scheduling conflict at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls.
