ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s stretched their home winning streak to 10 games with a sweep of the Post 6 Barbers in a nonleague doubleheader on Sunday night at Legion Field. The Doc’s forced extra innings in game one and came through with a 6-5 victory and held off a late rally in game two for a 6-4 triumph.

First year Doc’s player Zach Holland hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the score at five in game one. Brody Black shutout the Barbers over the final four innings, giving the Doc’s the shot at a comeback.

Roseburg (15-13; 4-4 Area 4) threatened to walk-off with a win in the seventh and eighth innings, but left runners in scoring position both times. Finally, in the ninth inning, Kyler Leischner came through with a one-out single to center field to plate the game-winning run.

Black picked up his first win of the year after pitching 5 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed seven hits, but only surrendered two runs. The Roseburg High grad gave up three walks and struck out three.

Post 6 (21-6) held a 5-1 leading in the fifth inning. The Barbers finished with 11 hits, but took advantage of six walks through the first five innings and one hit batter to build the four-run advantage.

The Doc’s had five extra base hits in game one, including four doubles – two of which came from Jett Black.

The Barbers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Doc’s starter Noah Burke gave up a double to leadoff hitter Curran Mitzel and the Barbers’ first run came in on a one-out triple by Justyn Herzog, who later scored on a wild pitch.

Burke settled in from that point and didn’t allow a run or a hit over his final five innings of work. While he shut things down on the mound, the Doc’s got to work at the plate. A wild second inning for Post 6 starter Justyn Herzog led to four runs on just one hit for the Doc’s.

Herzog issued three walks and hit one batter in the second. He was cited with three wild pitches that kept the runners moving and delivered the Doc’s first run. A sacrifice bunt by Gabe Burke tied the game and a fielding error at third base gave the Dr. Stewart’s a 4-2 advantage.

Another double for Jett Black, his third of the series, drove in a run in the fifth and proved to be the winning run. Jonathan Stone plated Roseburg’s final run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The Barbers rallied a little in the seventh inning against Doran Gillespie. Back-to-back singles to lead off the inning made the game more tense. A fielding error by Garrett Russell in center gave the Barbers a run and a sacrifice fly by Blake Baccay made it a 6-4 score. Gillespie managed to stop the rally with the game-tying run up to bat.

Noah Burke became the Doc’s first three-game winner with the victory. He had his longest outing of the season, tossing six innings and allowing just two hits and two runs. Burke walked three and struck out three.

Up next, the Doc’s will host the Klamath Falls Falcons for an Area 4 league doubleheader on Wednesday. Game one is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Tune in for broadcast coverage starting at 4:45 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
