CORVALLIS – Luke Heimlich scattered seven hits and a run over 8 2/3 innings and Trevor Larnach and Adley Rutschman each homered to send Oregon State to an 8-1 win over Minnesota Friday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

The win pushed the Beavers (48-10-1 overall) to a 1-0 lead in the Corvallis Super Regional, with game two slated for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. Minnesota (44-14) will be designated as the home team in the game.

Heimlich, making his last career start at Goss Stadium, improved to 16-1 on the year, and hit the 36-victory mark for his career, tying Ben Wetzler (2011-14) for the most at Oregon State. Heimlich did not issue a walk and struck out nine, which extended his school record to 151 on the year.

Larnach and Rutschman hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning to push the Beavers to a 3-0 lead. Larnach’s was a two-run shot, followed by Rutschman’s solo round-tripper. Rutschman later doubled home Larnach from second to re-take the team lead with 68 RBI this year.

Larnach, Rutschman, Steven Kwan and Michael Gretler all finished with two hits to pace the Beavers, who tallied 11 overall.

Minnesota’s Reggie Meyer started and took the loss to drop to 8-4 on the year. The righty allowed nine hits and six runs in six innings.
