
BANDON – The season started out on a positive note for the South Umpqua girls cross country team. The Lady Lancers won the team title at the Bullards Invitational in Bandon on Wednesday. South Umpqua placed three runners in the top seven to take first place. Bandon, the host team, finished second at the event and Myrtle Creek took third.
Leading the way for South Umpqua was sophomore Aneykah McCall, who finished third overall with a time of 21:58. Teammates Savannah Slay and Bethany Kalebaugh finished fifth and sixth respectively. Only runners placing in the top seven scored points towards the team scores.
Bandon junior Sailor Hutton won the individual title with a time of 20:21.
The South Umpqua boys finished third in Bandon, led by junior Nakai Sinohui who placed third overall with a time of 18:41. Junior Damien Shockey placed sixth overall.
The Douglas boy’s cross country team finished fifth overall at the Bullards Invitational.
