PORTLAND – It was a busy day for the Portland Trail Blazers organization on Thursday.
The day started with Evan Turner sitting alongside Trail Blazers President of Operations Neil Olshey and head coach Terry Stotts at press conference table. Turner signed a deal with the Blazers on Wednesday night worth a reported $70 million. He said during the meeting with the media that, the money is nice, but he very excited about joining a young, motivated team in Portland.
Turner will wear jersey No. 1 for the Blazers.

After Turner’s press conference, the Blazers also announced that the team had finalized a trade with the Orlando Magic for guard Shabazz Napier. Portland sent cash to the Magic in exchange for Napier, who is a two-year veteran in the NBA and has played with Miami and Orlando.
In his time in the NBA, Napier has averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 15.2 minutes. He will likely serve as the third option at point guard for the Blazers, behind Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.
Then late Thursday night, the Blazers announced that the team had reached an agreement with free agent center Festus Ezeli. The 6-foot-11 big man joins the Blazers from Golden State.

Ezeli was drafted by the Warriors with the 30th overall pick in 2012. He has been in the league for four years, all of which were with the Warriors, but Ezeli missed all of the 2013-14 season after having surgery to reinforce the MCL and PCL in his right knee. He also missed six weeks last season after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January.
But the Blazers reportedly put Ezeli through a thorough medical examination on Thursday and — apparently — were reassured by the results. He will significantly add to Portland’s interior defense. Ezeli has averaged nearly one block per game during his career and graduated from Vanderbilt as the school’s all-time blocks leader.
While the Blazers were wheelin’ and dealin’ on Thursday, the team also announced that it had waived forward Cliff Alexander, who had played in just eight games for Portland as a rookie last season.
Finally, news broke Thursday that Portland’s restricted free agent Allen Crabbe has reached an agreement with the Brooklyn Nets on a deal reportedly worth $75 million over four years.
Crabbe is a restricted free agent, meaning the Blazers now have three days to match the offer sheet from the Nets. The three-year NBA veteran became Portland’s best bench scoring option last year, but his price tag, which the Oregonian reports could go as high as $83 million with bonuses, might be a little steep as the Blazers consider other restricted free agents Meyers Leonard and Moe Harkless.
