GRESHAM – The Roseburg swimming team will be represented in four events on the final day of the state swimming meet at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham on Saturday.

The Indians’ boys 200 yard medley relay team had the best performance of Roseburg’s swimmers during the preliminary events on Friday. The relay team, made up of seniors Stephen Stoddard, Carson Murphy, and Daniel Endicott and sophomore Robert Gosman, finished fifth in the preliminary race. The foursome will swim in the second heat of the finals.

Roseburg will also race in the boys 400 yard freestyle relay. The four-man team consists of seniors Stoddard and Murphy, junior Wesley Becherer, and sophomore Gosman. The team qualified for the finals by placing 11th in the prelims.

Stoddard will also race in two other final events on Saturday. The senior qualified for the finals by placing 11th in the prelims of the 200 yard freestyle event and sixth in the 100 yard backstroke.

Roseburg also has two alternates for the finals. Junior McKenzie Vogel placed 13th in the 100 yard butterfly to qualify as an alternate and the boy’s 200 yard freestyle relay team placed 13th to also qualify as an alternate for the finals.

The 6A championship events begin at 5:45 p.m.
