Legion Baseball: Docs and Lewis-Clark split nonleague twin bill
The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s and Lewis-Clark Twins split a nonleague doubleheader Thursday at Champion Car Wash Field.
The Docs held off the Twins for a 7-2 win in the opener. Lewis-Clark fought back and took the nightcap 5-4.
Roseburg (18-12) and Lewis-Clark (18-9) will meet for the rubber match of the three-game series at noon Friday at Champion Car Wash Field.
Paxton Burke was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs in Roseburg Game 1 victory. The leadoff man also scored twice in the matchup. Logan Anderson added three hits and two RBIs for the Docs and Mason Young went 3-for-3 at the bottom of the lineup.
Teagan Sprague and Greyson Coate held the Twins to six hits. Both pitchers allowed just one run during their outings.
Sprague went five innings to earn the win. He allowed three hits with three walks and one strikeout. Coate took over in the sixth inning and struck out three batters, while allowing three hits and one walk.
Lewis-Clark jumped out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2 against Docs starter Christian Korba. The Twins scored all three runs in the fourth inning. Tucker Green and Morgan Bunch drove in runs with singles.
Roseburg scored twice in the sixth inning to get within 3-2, but Lewis-Clark stretched it back to a 3-run lead with a pair of runs in the seventh.
The Docs scored two runs in their final at-bats on a single by Anderson, but the Stewies left the game-tying run stranded at first base.
Anderson was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Burke was the only other Roseburg hitter with multiple hits.
Guy Krasselt led Lewis-Clark by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Former Dr. Stewart’s player Cal Robbins, who moved to Idaho with his family after last season, made his return to Champion Car Wash Field and was walked five times between the two games.
