The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s closed out the Douglas County Baseball Association Father’s Day Tournament with a 4-3 win over the Fairfield Expos on Sunday night at Champion Car Wash Field.

With the victory, the Docs finished 3-1 in the tournament and in a tie with Corvallis and Hillsdale for the top spot in the standings. Corvallis was deemed the tournament champion after an examination of the tiebreaking procedures.

Fairfield (17-13) struck first in Sunday’s tournament finale. The Expos capitalized on three hit batters to score a pair of runs on a single by Dylan Eddings off of Docs’ starter Christian Korba in the third inning.

The Expos stretched the lead to 3-0 with a run off of Docs’ reliever Logan Schwerdt in the fifth inning.

Korba’s final line was two runs allowed over four innings on two hits with five strikeouts, no walks and three hit batters. Schwerdt allowed one run on one hit over three innings.

The Docs rallied for the win with four runs on five hits in the fifth inning. Logan Anderson drove in a pair with a single to center field and Danner Wertz had a two-out, two-run single to give Roseburg (4-6) the lead for good.

Fairfield got the game-tying run to third base in the seventh inning, but Schwerdt got a grounder to second base for the final out. The southpaw from South Umpqua earned his first win on the mound this summer.

Dr. Stewart’s exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to pull away for a 15-5 win over the Hillsdale Merchants on Saturday.

Greyson Coate pitched three scoreless innings to get the win. Korba and Wertz both had two hits and a pair of RBIs in the victory.

The Docs’ only loss in the tourney was a 9-7 defeat against Corvallis on Friday night. Roseburg held a 4-0 lead early and was still ahead by a run after five innings, but the Marketmen scored five runs in the sixth to snatch the lead.

Roseburg scored twice in the seventh inning and had the game-tying run at bat, but Caleb Babcock closed the door with three consecutive outs.

The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s jump back to Area 4 league play with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Monday against Medford at Harry and David Field. The games will be broadcast on The Score 92.3 FM/1490 AM or watch on The Score YouTube channel.
