Legion Baseball: Docs start Father’s Day Tournament with 6-4 win over Baseballism

The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s American Legion baseball team beat the Baseballism Wet Sox 6-4 on Thursday to begin play in the Father’s Day Tournament hosted at Champion Car Wash Field.

The Docs jumped out to an early lead and held off the Wet Sox late in the contest.

Roseburg (2-5) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and twice led Baseballism (7-3) by three runs, but the Wet Sox rallied to within a run twice to keep the contest close.

Paxton Burke had an RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Docs a 6-4 lead and a little cushion as the game reached the final stretch.

Danner Wertz pitched the Docs to victory. He allowed four runs, but only one was earned, over five innings. Wertz surrendered five hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Fletcher Coleman tossed two scoreless innings to finish the game and earn the save for the Docs.

Roseburg had four extra base hits in the game. Teagan Sprague led the way with two triples. Logan Anderson had a three-bagger and Regan Soper was 2-for-2 with a double.

The Docs continue play in the tournament against the Corvallis Marketmen at 7 p.m. Friday. The game will be broadcast on The Score 92.3 FM/1490 AM or watch a live video simulcast on the 1490 The Score YouTube channel.
