College T&F: Umpqua men and women 3rd at NWAC championships

GRESHAM — The Umpqua Riverhawks men and women took home third place finishes at the NWAC Track and Field championships Tuesday at Mt. Hood Community College.

Spokane won both the men’s and women’s team titles.

Aunika Miller and Amina Mulendela dominated for the UCC women. Both athletes won three events.

Miller cruised in the long distance races, winning the 10k (39:47.16), 5k (18:15.41) and the 1,500 (4:48.24).

Mulendela was a winner in the 100 (11.91) and 200 (24.17) sprints and also took first in the long jump (5.53m). Her triple jump mark was a new personal best.

The UCC women’s 4×100 relay team consisting of Becky Tshianyi, Jada Ross, Adara Griffith and Mulendela finished first in a time of 47.96.

Other winners for UCC included Analise Miller in the women’s 800 (2:20.20) and O’Brien Bowen (14.65m) in the men’s triple jump.
