Preps T&F: Local athletes win over a busy weekend

It was a big weekend for track and field athletes from around the Umpqua Basin. There were a number of large meets happening and there were a number of local winners.

The Roseburg Indians sent a handful of athletes to the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene. The event featured hundreds of track and field athletes from Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

Highlights from the event for the Indians include:

  • A fifth place finish for the boys sprint medley relay 1,600-meter team of David Schmid, Caden Moon, McLane Stedman and Joseph Latham.
  • Emery Hurtienne finished ninth in the boys high jump.
  • Londyn Weaver placed 13th in the girls javelin.
  • The 4×200 relay team of Adam Lookabaugh, Stedman, Moon and Schmid finished seventh.

Douglas track and field hosted the Petersen Memorial Invitational at Umpqua Community College’s new facilities on Saturday.

Some of the highlights included:

  • Roseburg’s RJ Elliott, who won the boy’s 110-meter hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
  • Sutherlin’s Hunter Van Buren won the 100.
  • Douglas’ Hudson Salas was first in the 800.
  • Yoncalla’s Corbin Russell placed first in the shot put.
  • Glide’s Collin Groth took the title in the long jump.
  • Glendale’s Jayden Smith won the triple jump.
  • The boys’ 4×400 team from Douglas was first.
  • Camas Valley’s Jaiden Adams won the girl’s 800.
