UCC Basketball: Men topple Portland 87-76, Women get Stricklin’s 1,000th career win
WINCHESTER — It was a sweep for the Umpqua Riverhawks on Monday at Umpqua Community College.
The Umpqua men finished their South Region contest on an 8-1 run to hold off the Portland Panthers and earn an 87-76 victory.
Mikey Lloyd led the Riverhawks with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Caden Hunter added 18 points off the bench.
The win got UCC (16-2, 4-1 South) back in the win column after its first league loss of the season. The men are a half game behind first place Clark in the South Region standings.
The Umpqua women picked up their fourth consecutive victory with a milestone 89-60 drubbing of the Portland Panthers.
Kaelyn Shoemaker scored 9 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter, helping UCC (13-5, 4-1 South) build a nine-point lead. Shoemaker added 20 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double.
The victory was a milestone for coach Dave Stricklin, who earned his 1,000th career win. The team will celebrate the milestone on Sunday at 2 p.m. at UCC.
The Umpqua men and women will host the Southwestern Oregon Lakers for another league game on Wednesday.
