Tacoma ends Umpqua’s best season with 6-0 victory
TACOMA — The Umpqua Riverhawks women’s soccer team saw its best season come to an end with a 6-0 loss against Tacoma in the second round of the NWAC playoffs on Saturday at Tacoma Community College.
The Titans jumped on the Riverhawks early and piled it on late to advance. Emma Hoover scored in the second minute to put Tacoma (16-1-3) in the lead. Melanie Rojas-Perez added a goal about seven minutes later for a 2-0 lead in the first half. Tacoma added four goals in the second half.
Lola Maniscalco had the lone shot on goal for Umpqua (11-5-1). Kayden Twichell and Emersyn Gutierrez split time in goal for the Riverhawks.
This was the first time in the program’s young history that the UCC women had reached the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament. The Riverhawks had 11 sophomores on this year’s team.
