UCC: Riverhawks soccer moves to 1st, XC runner sets school record

SUTHERLIN — The Umpqua women’s soccer team clinched a playoff berth and moved into first place in the South Region standings after a 3-0 win over Rogue Community College on Saturday.

Merra Gulka, Savannah Sanders and Siulose Jones all had goals for UCC. Kayden Twichell and Emersyn Gutierrez each played a half in net and preserved the shutout for the Riverhawks.

This is the first postseason berth for Umpqua since the first season of UCC women’s soccer in 2021.

The Riverhawks can clinch their first-ever South Region title with a win over Chemeketa on Friday in Salem.

Cross Country at George Oja Invitational
The Umpqua cross country runners were at the George Oja Invitational at Linfield University on Saturday in McMinnville.

Analise Miller led the ladies with a new personal best of 23 minutes, 7 seconds in the 6k race. She finished 101st out of 352 runners, was the 7th fastest junior college athlete in the meet and set a new school record for the event.

Three of the five UCC women set personal records on the day to finish 29th out of 38 teams.

All seven of the Umpqua men ran personal bests to push the Riverhawks to finish 27th out of 35 teams. Leading the way for the Riverhawks for a second meet in a row was Seth Rincon.

The Riverhawks race in the Southern Region championships on Saturday in Springfield.
