American Legion Baseball: Docs roll through Post 58 Crushers in nonleague doubleheader

Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s picked up two wins over the Post 58 Canyon Crushers in a nonleague American Legion baseball doubleheader Friday at Bill Gray Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.
Teagan Sprague pitched all five innings in a 10-0 mercy rule victory to begin the day and the Docs earned a 9-3 win in the nightcap behind four solid innings from Jake Sproul.
The Docs reached 20 wins for the season and stretched their winning streak to three games.
Sprague allowed just two hits over five shutout innings against the Crushers. The rising junior at Umpqua Valley Christian finished with four strikeouts and two walks.
He got plenty of run support, including a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Docs scored on a triple by Cal Robbins and added runs on singles by Tauj Flora and Ryan Shaver.
Roseburg (20-17) stretched the lead to double figures with six runs in the third inning. Daniel Withers plated two runs on a single and Ty Hellenthal added another with a base hit. Robbins capped off the scoring with a three-run double.
Crushers’ starting pitcher Cash Martin lasted 3 2/3 innings and gave up 10 runs on 10 hits with four walks, two hit batters and a pair of strikeouts.
The Stewies built a 6-0 lead in Game 2 before Post 58 (18-19) cut the lead in half with three runs in the fifth inning against Shaver, who replaced Sproul.
Sproul walked three hitters and beaned a batter, but he did not allow a base hit over the first four frames. Shaver struggled to consistently find the zone and walked in a run. He also had a balk that resulted in a run and a throwing error by Withers scored another for the Crushers.
Roseburg responded with three runs in the home half of the fifth. Burke had an RBI triple and scored on a double steal. Robbins knocked home a run and capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Robbins and Logan Anderson closed out the game with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings defensively.
Robbins was 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs on the day. Jake Johnson had three RBIs in the nightcap, despite not getting a hit.
